The Rite

Rite
Adulteration of exorcism

Ricardo Martínez García

If the rite is an act-often of a symbolic nature, which is repeatedly form and therein lies its effectiveness, the priest Lucas Trevant (a declining Anthony Hopkins ) is the least able to teach a neophyte exorcism (in the form of a mystagogue) and skeptical about being ordained seminarian. Lucas's father makes such a kind of therapy rite in which the mother of a victim of evil takes to the priest as if a wider consultation, as this during the ceremony has the luxury to interrupt to answer his cell phone.

With a line of argument that bears some relation more The Exorcist 2, The Heretic (Boorman, 77), much more disturbing film for its moral theological proposals for special effects (and starring the great actor Richard Burton) , Rite (11) director Mikael Hafstrom, presents a work based on "facts", without specifying whether they refer to real events that casts a owned by mouth or metal studs This is the way that a seminarian is coerced to take a course for exorcists with the threat that if he leaves the priesthood to collect their instruction, and that ironically debunks some level or the implementation and effectiveness of the above ritual.

No scenes of horror or suspense that really impact the audience (who go to see it thinking it's a classic horror film became disenchanted with it), is a cynical kind of environment along the tape, a kind of ennui that expresses very well the Hopkins character, who happens to be the most experienced of the exorcists, but that is far from the majestic simplicity of Father Lankester Merrin, beautifully played by Max Von Sidow in that classic William Friedkin 1973.
